Family Income Supplement (FIS) is a weekly tax-free payment to people on low pay who are supporting at least one child.
If you are already getting FIS and your pay from work is reduced, you will not get an increase in your FIS payment (however, you can re-apply at the end of the FIS period).
If you are not getting FIS and your pay from work is reduced you may now qualify.
To qualify for FIS you must work 19 or more hours per week (or 38 or more hours per fortnight). You can combine your weekly hours worked with your spouse’s or partner’s to meet this condition.
FIS is calculated using weekly income limits for different sizes of family. If your income is below the income limit for your family size, the FIS payable is equivalent to 60% of the difference between the limit and your income. The combined income of a couple (married, in a civil partnership or cohabiting) is taken into account.
